I finally stopped being in denial and spent the money on my tome of ancient greek and latin grammar today
I forgot how one of the best things about being a linguist is the reactions of the university bookstore cashiers when they see the shit I study
the girl today was like “omg I’m so bad at doing grammar lol”
and thought it was SUPER EXCITING that i understand greek and latin and sanskrit? and she asked if I ever have conversations with my friends in latin and I’m just imagining her picturing this big linguist party where people just “do grammar” and chat in dead languages about what they did on the weekend
actually, now that I think about it, I’m sort of sad that that ISN’T what goes on…
